The purpose of this study was to analyze utilization of public health centers for health care among beneficiaries of medical insurance by using a self-reported questionnaire at three public health centers in Seoul for three weeks from the middle of April, 1995.
The major findings of the study are as follows;
1. There were 260 female patients(67%) in the total 400. patients surveyed. The mean age of the subjects was 48.8± 12.8.
2. When the sociodemographic variables of beneficiaries surveyed were compared with those of the patients who visited a -´private clinic during the same period, there were more female patients, more patients with I chronic conditions and older patients among the patients of public health centers than the patients of general clinic(P<0.01).
3. The reasons why beneficiaries of medical insurance visited the public health centers were as follows : low medical cost(66%), trustfulness as public institute(60.3%), easily accessible location of the health centers(56%), good treatment efficiency(53%), kindness of the staffs(50.8%), and short waiting time(50%).
The beneficiaries, however, showed dissatisfaction on the limited laboratory test(38.3%), the limited´ scope of diseases taken care by public health centers(34.0%). and limited duration of the drug prescription(16.5%). 4. In logistic regression analysis, it was found that the level of recent health status had significant influence on the overall satisfaction of the users, and that improved course of the illness and the area public health centers located had significant influence on the overall satisfaction and intention to recommend health centers for medical care to others.
